Single Channel Interactive Installation

Installed in the Sol Koffler Gallery at the Rhode Island School of Design for the Pixilerations International New Media Festival, and later installed at the Beard and Weil Galleries at Wheaton College in 2014. Umbra centers on two bodies of film created a little over a decade from each other: archival footage of the V-2 rocket attacks on Belgium, and segments of Walt Disney’s “Man in Space”. The central figure to both works is the rocket scientist Wernher Von Braun who played a critical role in the production of both films. The piece itself uses infrared flashlights to “shine light” over one layer of video to reveal the hidden layer below.
